Your camcorder need a Lanc input, if not, you may be can use a Docking Station for enabeling DV-in, like Sony VMC-LM7 or Canon DU-20)
Most of all Sony Digital 8 camcorders enable analog video input, direct A/D conversion and manual with balance.
To enable DVin on your Camcordery you need our software, a PC running Winodws95/98 (min 486)or NT/2000/XP/ME (switch off the Virus-Scanner!) It. will not run under emulators Linux/OS2/Macintosh) and You need the Panasonic Still-Capture Cable ( is included with PanaDVin).
- It`s very easy to enable DVin with PanaDVin
- Start the program, power on your camcorder and connect it using the Lanc Cable
- Press the "Identify" button, Lremote will identify Your camcorder.
- Press the "Enable DVin" or "Disable DVin" button, according to what You want to do. Wait until Lremote has finished (takes about 1 minute)
Your camcorder "remembers" that DVin has been enabled, even when you turn it off. So you have to enable DV-in just one time. It`s strongly recommended you disable DV-in if your camcorder must be repaired. It`s easy like enabeling DV-in, you just have to klick on "Disable DV-in"
To record DV via firewire, turn on the camcorder in player (VTR) mode, to record through the lens turn it on in Camera mode. Your DV camcorder has no record button (and neither has Your IR remote), the record button used in Camera mode does not work. You have the following options:
If you plan to use your camcorder with a Firewire computer system (PC, MAC, Casablanca): The video editing software coming with your firewire card will allow you to put the camcorder in recording mode (recording control commands can be sent via Firewire) You can buy a Panasonic IR Remote with a record button which is compatible with your camcorder (e.g modell VEQ1977 for the DX100) A software Program "Pana Record", which allows you to control the camcorder using the still-capture cable come`s with the original PanaDVin disk.
You can enable all camcorders mentioned above, but only one at a time. E.g. if you have enabled a DS5, in the next step you only can disable the DS5. After this you are free to enable any other camcorder from the List, and so on ... If you have 2 camcorders and need both enabled at the same time, you have the option to buy a second PanaDVin.
Background
Camcorder owners in Europe have always been at a disadvantage compared with e.g. America. Not only have their camcorders traditionally cost more, but also the equipment is less well endowed!
Americans have always been able to record onto their video cameras, they have been able to use them as mini-video recorders. The reason for this, apparently, is the tax and import restrictions in the EU (European Union). Camcorders with the inputs enabled are regarded as video recorders and, as such attract a higher level of duty. They are also included in manufacturers' import quotas for video recorders. So the more camcorders with video inputs they import, the fewer video recorders they can import. Daft or what?
How to gain a digital recorder from your Sony DV Camcorder, how does it work?
Untill beginning 2002 most of all DV camcorders are designed and manufactured with the DV input enabled. The European Union import duty is higher on DV-IN enabled camcorders than on camcorders that are DV-IN Disabled. Therfore most camcorders imported into the EU have software in it, were DV-Input is Disabled. DV-IN Disabled camcorders have a software that turns the DV-Input off, Lremote, PanaDVin, JVCDVin and Hardware-Widget change this software and simply switches this back on. Now, you will be able to import your video footage to your computer, edit it with a DV application and export it back to your DV camcorder!
That’s it, you are now a owner of a high-quality digital videorecorder.
